In August of 2015, Los Angeles Daily News ran a story entitled “Watts Apartment Owner Sued by City of L.A. Over Gang Activity” that highlighted the civil action filed by City Attorney Mike Feuer to undercut crime and gang activity at an apartment complex in Watts, Watts Arms I. Foundation Housing acquired Watts Arms in 2017 and helped to transform this community into a safe, and family-friendly environment.
Since Foundation Housing acquired Watts Arms I in 2017, 911 calls have decreased considerably at this community, and there is now a waiting list for residents.
The improvements have brought dignity and civility to this 104-unit community that generations of families have called their home.
Watts Arms now features 24-hour security.
Fences have been installed to protect the perimeter of the development.
The Community Building of the property was renovated by Foundation Housing.
The remodeled Community Building features a Business Center. All residents of Watts Arms are provided with access to free Wi-Fi service.
What was once a gang hangout is now a community where residents feel safe, secure, and part of a tight-knit community.
Foundation Housing has made significant and enduring investments in Watts, and is under contract to acquire, in Q1 of 2020, the affordable housing community across the street from Watts Arms, Washington Court.
Foundation Housing renovated all units at the property. The units now feature new, energy efficient heating and cooling systems, new kitchens with Energy Star refrigerator, range, and disposal, as well as the addition of a microwave and dishwasher to units.
Watts Arms now has
resurfaced and restriped parking lots. Foundation Housing also installed new concrete sidewalks to ensure access to all units.
Fondation Housing replaced all mailboxes at the property, and put up a new roof on all buildings with 25-year warranted shingles.
