Lewis Park is a 6-story low rise apartment building for residents with disabilities located near the Minnesota Capitol in St. Paul. The property and tenants benefit from a project-based Section 8 HAP contract with a 20-year term covering 100% of the units. Residents who live here say Lewis Park helps them to feel alive, despite their physical challenges. The property includes a wheelchair accessible ramp which rises from the ground floor to the top floor that facilitates the movement of the disabled.

Lewis Park features accommodations built specifically for the disabled. Cabinets and cupboards are placed lower in apartment kitchens, for example, so that residents in wheelchairs have access to their dishes.

Kadejah Sanderson has been living at Lewis Park after spending two years living in a homeless shelter.

Residents say the playground is great for younger families when they visit.

Residents say their neighborhood makes Lewis Park an appealing place to live.

Keila Casson (L) is the Lewis Park Property Manager. She raised her 3 children in affordable housing in a property that she characterizes as roach and rodent infested. She says she is very proud to be working at Lewis Park. “Every day it feels good to come in (to work) and see that people are proud to live here and they’re keeping their independence.”

Bob has lived at Lewis Park since 1991. He was in a car accident almost 30 years ago and has been using a wheelchair ever since. “This place helps me to have dignity because it is throughly made for a disabled person. It is very affordable to the disabled person’s budget.”
